Traveling is a great way to open up your worldview. Whether you jaunt to a U.S. city or jet to Europe or Asia, you're sure to have new experiences (not to mention food and sights) that will be fun and informative! Travel as a student can be even more enriching because you can extend your learning experience and take advantage of student-oriented options.

Student travel can be quite a bit less expensive than ordinary travel, weven when one uses the discount sites. With a school student ID card and an International Student Exchange card, you can get travel deals on restaurants, attractions, local transportation, and more. If you check out STA Travel, you can find reduced airline fares and special student tour packages to places like Rome, Barcelona, and, of course, Amsterdam. Party on!

Despite the scares in films like Hostel, hostels in Europe and around the world can be fun, educational, and good bargains. You can choose hostels with dorm options, or shared single or double rooms. Some hostels provide linens and towels, but may don't, expecting students who are backpacking with their own sleeping bags and towels, Some hostels also offer area tours, breakfast, nightlife activities, and more, plus they are definitely a way to mingle with folks from around the world. And if hostels aren;t your thing, check out small pensiones, which are like very inexpensive hotels.

How about taking a quarter to study somewhere other than here? Most people automatically think of studying abroad, but you can start small by choosing a United States location to study for a quarter. The National Student Exchange offers such options, for example. You can also check there, at the Institute for Study Abroad, or here at SCCC for unique international learning opportunities. Imagine studying design in Germany, technical programs in India, and biodiversity in Peru.

Sometimes students can get good deals on accomodations when they arrange for part or all of their trip to be a voluntter vacation. For instance, the U.K. has volunteer weekends with the National Trust, where you can help conserve and protect BritainŐs wildlife.
