Annie's Story

Annie

"Last year, as my husband and I got ready to welcome our new baby, we realized our 3-year old Bernese Mountain Dog, Assata, was lonely for canine company. We started perusing rescue lists and websites in the hopes of finding another sweet, large-breed female dog to join our family. About ten days after our son Callum was born, my husband discovered a picture of Romy on Animal Aid and Rescue Foundation's website. We took Assata to meet Romy at the home of her foster family, and the two of them hit it off immediately, racing around the yard and boxing and wrestling. We fell head over heels in love with Romy's sweet nature and beautiful face, and found it astonishing that anyone could have neglected such a loving and gorgeous animal.

Animal Aid and Rescue Foundation set up the adoption seamlessly. My only hesitation was the behavior which had earned "Romy" her name in foster care: her tendency to wander off and roam. Its been almost seven months now, and while she still takes herself on the occasional neighborhood adventure, she's settled into our family without a hitch.

We renamed her Annie, and she made our infant son her personal responsibility. She keeps Assata in shape with regular play sessions, and patrols our yard with great enthusiasm. We've introduced her to the beach, the dog park, the snowy mountains, and some basic commands, and we can't imagine our family without her."
