"For 8 years I have been bugging, begging, pleading and guilting my husband into getting a dog. He wanted one but our life was just too busy all the time to devote and love a dog would need. In the spring of 2010 I quit my job and instantly my husband gave me the go-ahead to start looking for a dog.
I looked for about 3 months on petfinder.com, craigslist and by asking friends. There were some dogs that I thought I could love but when we went to meet the dogs there just wasn't that spark.
After an exhausting day of shelter hopping I was just about to sign off my computer when I decided to look on petfinder one last time; mind you I had already looked there about 5 times earlier that day. After clicking on all my requirements for a pet the love of my life introduced herself. Lola, a 1 1/2 year old fawn Boxer, needed a home. I began crying and my husband began thinking his wife was going insane. After I collected myself and watched Lola's video about a million and one times I emailed AARF requesting if we could come and meet Lola. I explained we were a young family with 2 daughters, 2 cats and a hamster and who now wanted to have a dog, Lola.
After sending that email I instantly went to AARFs website to see if there was more information on Lola. Oh no! She wasn't even listed on their website!!! I went into a complete freak out thinking she had already been adopted. That could not be! So I immediately sent a second email saying I found Lola on petfinder but upon going to their own website I could not find her anywhere. Was she available for adoption or was she already adopted?
I had a very restless sleep and first thing in the morning I checked my email. I then sent a 3rd email to AARF apologizing for my two previous emails of insanity and explained how Lola just instantly called to me and how I fell madly in love with her.
I received a very kind and loving email back explaining that, indeed, Lola was available for adoption and they just hadn't had time to put her information on their own website and that posting on petfinder was super easy. They invited me to come and visit her that Friday to see if it really was love.
My whole family trekked to where Lola was living and it really was true love. The instant we got out of the car she came bounding up to us saying, "There you are! What took you so long!" My 3 year old daughter took one look at her and said "Sit doggie!" and Lola sat! Now that is a good dog.
We playing for quite some time with Lola and while talking with Nikki I noticed my 5 year old being very quiet and sneaky with Lola. They casually walked over to our car where my daughter opened the door and Lola jumped in. My daughter said she didn't think anyone would notice and she really wanted to keep the dog.
Lola has been the best part of our family since July of 2010 and I cannot think of life without her. We have made many new friends because of her, become a stronger family unit because of her and have gained many more moments of laughter because of her. She even loves to show off her latest trick-you ask her to "talk" and she will sound like Chewbaca.M
Thank you AARF! I will continue to praise you daily to all my friends and family members!
