Maggie Moo's Story

Maggie Moo, We Love You

Maggie Moo

" 'Unadoptable pit-bull' saves boys life. Yep, that's right. My sweet Maggie Moo saved my brother's life. Who made this miracle possible? Well, put simply, it's because of AARF.

My sweet Maggie Moo was found running down I-5 with her puppy, scared out of her wits. Thankfully, an AARF volunteer saw them and stopped to help and, somehow, coaxed them into her car. At that point, Maggie – a white dog – was stained bright yellow from being forced to live in urine. It took repeated grooming before she returned to her natural white. She was covered with scars. She had almost no teeth and the ones she had were broken. Her tiny body had been stretched from repeated pregnancies. She had been living in deplorable circumstances and was lucky to have escaped. Enter AARF to the rescue. Maggie was taken to the vet where she was treated for a variety of issues, moved into a wonderful foster home, and given love, food, and training. So how did I get so lucky as to adopt her?

Last year, the first true love of my life, Babe, died at the age of 14. A truly remarkable dog, I assumed that I could never find another dog with his personality, love, and humor. As sad as I was (and will always be), I began researching rescue organizations for a dog. Pit-bulls have always been a favorite of mine because of their sweet and often misunderstood disposition. This led me to a pit-bull "rescue" organization, one that turned out to not share my belief that all animals deserve a home and our help. After I told my friend about my awful experience with the other "rescue" group, she suggested I look into AARF. The rest, as they say, is history!

Now, the story of Maggie Moo the Life Saver: Maggie had only been with me about six months when, one night when my little brother was over and sleeping in my spare room, I awoke to Maggie sitting up, looking intently at me, and barking loudly – something that she never does. I shot out of bed, listened, and heard a strange noise coming from the spare bedroom. I walked in and, thanks to Maggie's cries, found my brother in the middle of a grand mal seizure. Because she woke me up, I was able to call 911 in time to save my brother's life. Needless to say, my entire family is now even more in love with Maggie, bringing over gifts and treats, all of which she happily accepts.

It's been almost one year now since Maggie joined my life and not a day goes by when I don't think about how fortunate I am to have adopted her. Each morning when my alarm clock goes off Maggie rolls onto her back, eyes twinkling, arms and legs stretched out, and she gives me a look that I interpret as: "You don't have to go to work today! You can stay home with me and rub my stomach all day long!" Somehow I break free from her sweet spell and go to work, returning each night to discover her full of joy and energy, happily bouncing off the walls (I call her my "bouncing baby girl") in anticipation of our evening walk.

I am forever indebted to AARF for taking the time and energy, not to mention financial resources, necessary to help Maggie Moo. Love has returned to my life."
