"Dear Heather, Tara, Animal Aid and Rescue Foundation (a.k.a. Animal's First Foundation), and all those who aided me, fostered me, and especially donated to my rescue, care and subsequent adoption:
Hi everyone it's me Pearl!! As you can see from the photos I'm still the same "girl" that you all were so kind and generous to help out and find a home for; only now I have a few more pounds on my tall, lanky, sleek frame. My permanent home is GREAT!!! I have 3 half-brothers (cats) as well as a brother named Moose, who is a black lab/sheppard cross and weighs almost 90 pounds. So while I am certainly taller than he is, I still don't weigh quite as much as he does. He was adopted too, but now is very confident and well adjusted. I follow his lead, feed off him and am more daring and brave at trying new things– as long as he goes first. He reassures me and helps me work through my timid nature of new situations and I love spending all day with him while dad is at work. We have a very large fenced in back yard and a doggie door that allows us to get into the house and out of the elements – so my biggest worry during the day is do I sleep on the human bed or the doggie bed – tough choice huh!!??
Speaking of my dad, he has been great to me and has taught me many things and provided me many learning experiences. We go on a walk EVERY DAY, which includes a swing through the dog park to socialize and play, and even walk twice on these special days called "weekends" and "holidays". I walk/heel very well on a leash and know my basic commands: sit, stay, heel, come, wait, etc. I approach people now, still somewhat cautiously at first – after all you never know- some strangers might bite, and as always still greet and get along with most dogs splendidly. I will play fetch but my favorite activity is running with and chasing other dogs – my long legs allow me to catch up to almost any dog as they run; however, as soon as they corner, look out, my coordination is improving but is still not the best.
Since being adopted and taken to my permanent home in late October I have done sooooo many fun things like: Thanksgiving and New Years in a high rise in Seattle (the elevator was "interesting"), Christmas at a home with 3 dogs in Kelso, and vacations to La Push and Port Townsend, WA not to mention my more routine trips to the hardware and pet stores, Chambers Bay off-leash area and various parks and recreational areas to hike.
I have a few "issues" and "habits" I'm working through behaviorally (Hi, I'm Pearl – it has been 2.5 months since I have eaten a textile product – ha-ha), but I am certainly happy and healthy and well on my way. I have another eye appointment in April to see if I need more surgery to correct my condition; however, so far all is good. I don't want to bore you with all the details, but in short life is great and I just wanted to thank each and every one of you for providing me this chance at a normal, happy, great dog life – I am forever indebted to you for all your kindness and generosity!!
Bark, wolf, lick – Luv,
Pearl
